Under Floor Heating

Under Floor Heating

Underfloor heating is mostly used in ground-floor rooms, but, in reality, this is a system to suit any kind of floor surface. Electric Underfloor heating is likely to be more suitable for existing rooms as the electric mesh system is flat and less need for floor heights to be altered, things to bear in mind are insulation board and thermostats, we have some pictures of underfloor heating, after which we always latex the whole area before tiling.
Mosaic

Mosaic

The correct approach for tiling with mosaic especially in your house is firstly to look at the finish of your existing walls, if you have tradesmen doing work for you (plasterers for example).

Make sure the area you need tiling with mosaic is perfectly flat as these discrepancies will show dramatically once the wall is tiled especially with mosaic, floors can be latexed if uneven. Mosaic is time consuming, but can look great when fixed professionally.
Swimming Pools

Swimming Pools

With good tradesmen, swimming pools can be made into practically any shape! After you decide on the structure, shape and depth of your pool, you will need to make decisions, such as what kind of tile you want to install. Most swimming pool tiles are either glass or porcelain, and they come in a variety of textures, from smooth to coarse. Choose tiles for pools by considering safety, style and functionality.
Porcelain

Porcelain

80% of porcelain don't have any glaze most are (matt finish) however, some do have a glaze, (the colour design) is baked into the tile, therefore the colour runs right through the tile. These are called 'thru-body' porcelain tiles.

Therefore, in addition to them being very hard wearing, any wear or chips in the tile will be difficult to see. Fixing porcelain takes more time due to the density, weight and often large size of these tiles compared to ceramics, some people are unaware of this.

Victorian Floors

Victorian Floors

Victorian floors come in many different designs and look fantastic, but the laying of Victorian floors is a painstaking process. Virtually like a jigsaw, the tilers job is not made any easier by even small inconsistencies in the profile of the underlying floor.

If you are considering a Victorian floor and are preparing the floor base yourself, you must make sure the screed is as level as possible, otherwise the floor will show up these undulations and floor levelling compounds must then be used. The cost of these tiles alone can be considerable, so it's imperative you know your tiler is capable. We also refurbish Victorian floors.

Natural Stone

Natural Stone

We undertake many jobs with Natural Stone tiles and they are commonly available in a few different materials and colours, some being Travertine, Marble, Slate, Limestone and Sandstone.

They can be used pretty much anywhere, but are most common in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and the surrounding areas of fireplaces. Stone tiles are usually more expensive than your average ceramic or porcelain tiles, but in the right property they can look amazing if they are fitted and sealed correctly.
Slate

Slate

Suitable for interior and exterior uses. From very lightly riven Brazilian slate for a more contemporary feel, through to very rustic riven slate to create the old farmhouse flag stone effect. Available in most sizes from 300 x 300 mm up to 900 x 900 mm
Marble

Marble

Marble is a sophisticated flooring option, it does require a certain amount of care and maintenance. It needs to be treated on a regular basis to protect it against spills and moisture. It is also susceptible to certain stains and damage, but again in the right property this kind of tile can have an elegance about it. Marble dose take time to fix compared to some other tiles and cannot be rushed, therefore prices to fix marble are higher.

Terracotta

Terracotta

Terracotta in my opinion is a beautiful addition to older houses, especially farmhouses. Many of these tiles are hand made out in the open air in far off countries, and I've actually seen wild footprints of birds and cats in the Brazilian terracotta! Some are also machine made, as you may have seen in my pictures, after a few coats of linseed oil and wax they can look like they've been there for years.

Ceramic

Ceramic

For an extremely low maintenance and often cheaper option, ceramic tiles are a great choice for kitchens and bathrooms, not only on the floor but also on the walls, (although I would have to say that we don't fix as many these days due to the popularity of porcelain and natural stone) These tiles are very easy to work with, they can be scored and cut easily with the right tools. Most DIY'ers and certainly fixers don't have any problems.
